Frank R. Kearney is a Nationally Recognized, Board-Certified civil trial lawyer, author, and advocate for injured workers, serious car accident victims, and people with long term disability claims. This means he represents people who have been seriously injured and families who have lost a loved one due to medical malpractice, car accidents, construction site accidents and other serious work accidents, and denials of ERISA long term disability benefits based on injuries and serious medical conditions.
Early in his career, Mr. Kearney represented insurance companies and other corporations, defending personal injury lawsuits. He now uses this experience to his clients’ advantage in negotiating with insurance company representatives and executives. He knows how the insurance industry works.
Mr. Kearney comes from a working-class background and his philosophy is simple. He treats all of his clients with respect. This includes not only vigorously protecting their rights, but returning telephone calls as well. He was a partner at a large law firm before leaving to found Donahoe Kearney, PLLC with only one other goal in mind – to provide the absolute best experience for people with serious injuries and disabilities. Mr. Kearney has won sizable verdicts, settlements and judgments on behalf of victims of serious accidents and medical malpractice and he represents clients in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. For many years he has been one of the only D.C. attorneys representing injured workers selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers, an independent rating service for lawyers. He has also been selected for Best Lawyers, Top Attorneys, Top 100 Trial Lawyers, Avvo Client Choice, and other awards.
Mr. Kearney has written extensively about the types of cases he handles, and the rights of people injured on the job, in car accidents, or because of medical malpractice. He is the author of The Ultimate Guide To D.C. Workers Compensation, The Union Worker’s Guide To Workers Compensation, Picking Up The Pieces After Medical Malpractice: A Parent’s Guide, The Ultimate Guide To Accident Cases In The DMV, and The Patient’s Guide To Medical Malpractice. In addition, he has developed and taught Continuing Legal Education courses for other attorneys focused on representing people who have been injured. Most recently, he developed and taught a course for the D.C. Bar on workers compensation laws and the rights of injured workers. He has lectured on these topics at the AFL-CIO, developed presentations for labor unions and held seminars on legal issues affecting workers for a variety of labor organizations. Mr. Kearney has also served as an editor of the D.C. Practice Manual’s Personal Injury and Workers’ Compensation chapters.
Mr. Kearney worked his way through George Mason University School of Law, graduating in 1993. He attended Duquesne University on scholarship and graduated, with honors, in 1990.
In 2003, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America recognized Mr. Kearney for his pro bono representation of victims of 9/11. In addition to his full time practice of law devoted to representing injured individuals, Frank R. Kearney has served his country as a Captain in the United States Army Reserve. He is a former Co-Chairman of the D.C. Bar Torts Section and a member of the Board of Governors for the District of Columbia Trial Lawyers Association, as well as a member of the American Association for Justice and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
