A Nurse’s Career Caring for Others
For over 20 years, Aja’s life revolved around caring for others. She worked in healthcare her entire career, starting as an EMT before transitioning into nursing. She went above and beyond caring for patients who could not care for themselves, always picked up double shifts, stayed careful with her body, and took pride in her work. She had never been injured on the job.
Then everything changed.
Aja’s injury happened in 2023. Suddenly, she was unable to work. Her knee was not healing, and workers’ compensation stopped moving forward. Medical treatment stalled. She had not seen an Orthopedic doctor or attended physical therapy in some time, and the pain came back. Money became a major concern, and the stress began to pile up.
What made it harder was the lack of communication from her first lawyer and not knowing what was happening with her case. Then her first lawyer passed away, a tragedy she was not told about until weeks later, and she also had a court date coming up. Her case was delayed again, leaving her anxious, overwhelmed, and without answers. “I was in complete despair,” Aja shared. “I didn’t know where to turn, and I wasn’t getting information or support when I needed it.”
She had spent her entire career helping others, yet when she needed help herself, she felt alone. She wanted to move forward with her housing plans and continue medical care. Instead, everything felt frozen.
That is when she found Donahoe Kearney.
“The difference was night and day,” she said. “The communication was the best I had ever experienced. I could ask questions and actually get answers.”
After Aja shared what she had been through, we stepped in and things finally moved. She felt supported, heard, and no longer alone.
We reworked the case for court, rejected prior settlement offers, and made it clear the case was being taken seriously.
Throughout it all, Aja leaned on her faith in God. Prayer helped her stay hopeful as she let go of her job and trusted that God was not finished with her story.
Looking ahead to 2026, Aja is focused on rebuilding. She hopes to get a new car, take her daughter on a special trip, and celebrate her daughter’s 16th birthday. More than anything, she wants to move forward and do something meaningful for her family.
Her advice is simple yet powerful. “If you are injured and don’t know where to go, find people who communicate with you. Don’t go through it alone.”
