Pedestrian Hit by Car in DC Crosswalk Settlement

| Grace

Reckless drivers are everywhere in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. People are on their phones, not paying attention, speeding, and not watching where they’re going.

That’s exactly what happened when a driver took a corner way too fast and hit our client Karen in a crosswalk. Worse, Karen was in a wheelchair when she got hit by the car, because she had just come from dialysis.

Karen was dynamic, joyful, and full of life, but she was also dealing with significant kidney disease when the driver hit her. While still recovering from the torn ligament in her knee and other orthopedic injuries caused by the crash, Karen passed away due to complications from her kidney condition.

It’s heartbreaking to think that your last few months on earth could be complicated by being hit by a careless driver — but that’s what happened to Karen.

In a case like this, when someone dies after an accident, their estate can step in to settle the claim. So we worked with Karen’s sister and other family members to make sure the estate received a fair settlement in her memory.

At Donahoe Kearney, family means everything. After our client passed away, we worked with her sister to continue the car accident case she started. We stayed committed to making sure her case was completed and her family received the settlement they deserved. We’ve had the honor of helping their family before, and we’re truly grateful for the trust they placed in us again during such a difficult time.
