Rhonda was working as a Certified Medical Assistant in Washington, DC, when an ordinary day at work took an unexpected turn.

She was putting away medical supplies when she tripped over a loose floor mat and fell. During the fall, she hit her head on a box and injured her knees.

At first, it might not sound like the kind of accident that could keep someone out of work for months. But Rhonda suffered a concussion, and recovering from it wasn’t easy.

She began having headaches, dizziness, memory problems, and trouble concentrating. Even everyday activities became harder. For someone whose job involves helping patients and working in a busy medical office, those symptoms made returning to work difficult.

Rhonda started seeing doctors who specialized in treating concussions. They recommended physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to help her recover.

Unfortunately, getting that treatment wasn’t as simple as making an appointment.

There were delays getting some of her recommended therapies started, and Rhonda was still dealing with concussion symptoms while trying to figure out when she could return to work.

On top of that, there were disagreements with the workers’ compensation insurance company about her benefits and how much her injury affected her ability to work.

That’s when Rhonda came to Donahoe Kearney.

Attorney Frank Kearney and our team worked with Rhonda to address the problems with her DC workers’ compensation claim. We reviewed her medical records, stayed on top of the issues with the insurance company, and worked to get her case resolved.

After negotiations with the insurance company, we reached a settlement that brought her workers’ compensation case to a close.

Rhonda’s experience is a reminder that a concussion can be a serious workplace injury, even when there’s no visible injury or broken bone. Headaches, memory problems, and difficulty concentrating can make it hard to work, take care of your family, or even get through a normal day.

We’re happy we could help Rhonda through a difficult time and get her case resolved.
